About Bespoke Handcrafted Furniture

Mario, founder and owner of Bespoke Handcrafted Furniture started his career as a cabinet maker over twenty years ago with an apprenticeship at a renowned bespoke furniture company based in Suffolk specialising in bespoke kitchens, fitted and free-standing furniture. It was here that he developed his skills to produce high quality pieces of furniture using traditional and modern jointing techniques and construction methods. After several years he had become one of their senior cabinet makers undertaking interesting and challenging design projects for a number of clients.

He moved on to become a foreman for several more years at two other bespoke furniture companies in Suffolk, further enhancing his skills and design techniques. In 2019 he decided to create his own bespoke furniture company, creating custom fitted furniture in Norfolk and Suffolk, where he can use his skills and knowledge to handcraft beautiful high quality bespoke furniture.

At Bespoke Handcrafted Furniture we specialise in bespoke kitchens, fitted and freestanding furniture. All pieces are designed individually, tailored to your needs and ideas and then handcrafted using traditional and modern jointing methods. All pieces are hand finished and fitted to the highest standards to perfectly complement your home or business.

Workmanship in Detail

At Bespoke Handcrafted Furniture all commissions are handmade from high quality, carefully selected timber, where possible sourced locally, and always FSC approved. We have a passion for working with wood and a keen eye for precision and detail. We love to bring out the natural beauty within the materials we use to produce aesthetically pleasing pieces of furniture and incorporating them perfectly into homes and businesses across the East Anglia Region.

 The vast majority of materials are hand picked personally at the local saw mill, whether the finished piece is going to be a natural finish or painted. Traditional jointing methods include mortise and tenon, possibly one of the oldest jointing techniques. We mainly use this jointing method to construct all of our framework and doors. Dovetail joints, again a traditional ancient jointing technique, this method is used to craft our solid wooden drawers.

 

 

 


 

 

Modern jointing techniques include biscuit joints, the biscuit is a compressed wooden oval shape which slots into corresponding grooves. All of our carcases are jointed with biscuits. This offers added strength alongside the screw fixings, another modern jointing method. Pocket screw joints are also a modern technique, which are mainly used to fix our framework to carcases, alongside biscuit joints for strength and accuracy.

 

 



 

 

 

We offer spray-painted finishes for a clean silky smooth texture, this is applied by us in our in-house workshop spray booth. Always two coats of undercoat primer, followed by two coats of colour top coat, in any colour of your choice. We can also give your bespoke furniture a hand brushed finish for a more traditional look if you'd prefer. All of our undercoats, primers, top coat pigmented colours and lacquers are water based low-VOC products, as this is far kinder to the environment than solvent based alternatives.

 

 

 

 

 

For natural wooden finishes, we offer a spray finish with lacquer which is extremely durable. This product has been specifically engineered for the furniture industry and is also water based. Alternatively we also use Osmo Oil for a natural finish. This product has been specially developed to allow deep penetration into the wood grain but still allows the material to breathe whilst preserving it, keeping it healthy for decades. Osmo Oil is made using carefully harvested natural plant based oils and hard waxes, all of which are fully sustainable, and is proudly vegan too.

 

 


 

 

More About Materials

When hand-making your bespoke furniture project, we mainly craft with hard woods, for example Oak, Ash, Poplar (Tulip Wood) and Walnut. These are always responsibly sourced, sustainable and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved. When we craft freestanding and custom fitted furniture in Norfolk and Suffolk, we use a variety of different sheet materials to complement your bespoke furniture, depending on your project and requirements, these include wood veneered birch plywood and wood veneered MDF, Latvian birch plywood, moisture resistant MDF and melamine faced MDF.

All of the sheet materials we use are specifically manufactured for the furniture industry. We never use chipboard core sheet materials in our workshop, MDF and Birch Plywood core are chosen for their character, strength and longevity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We pride ourselves with using only the highest quality drawer runners and door hinges available to the furniture industry. The concealed door hinges and drawer runners we use are manufactured in Austria by worldwide supplier Blum. They offer unbeatable performance and are supplied with a lifetime of the furniture guarantee (that's how good they are!).

 If your preference is for traditional butt hinges for your doors, the ones we choose to use are engineered and manufactured by Simonswerk in Germany. There are a selection of colours and finishes to choose from to complement your furniture project perfectly.
